It might seem controversial to say as much, but in my opinion the majority of the most interesting films released in the past 10 years have not been released by Hollywood or the UK. Yet for millions of film and television fans worldwide, the world of foreign cinema remains closed off to them due (primarily) to their own stubbornness. A common argument made by those who might feel a little nervous about venturing down the rabbit hole of foreign films is that they don’t want to feel ‘like they’re reading a book’. In my eyes this argument is completely invalid, as any regular foreign film fanatic will tell you that literally minutes into any good film, a strong reader will cease to notice that they are reading at-all and will simply fall into the story. In fact, a good litmus test with any subtitled film is that if you are still aware you are reading after 10 minutes it’s either a bad film or the subtitling companies tasked with translating the film did a poor job. “The cool man with a heart of steel” has stolen almost every moviegoer’s heart. The third installment of the Iron Man series recently hit the screens and captured the imagination of all alike. Without giving out any plot spoilers, I was taken aback by the grandiosity of the climax of the movie shot at the Port of Wilmington. The big showdown of the movie takes place here and has every reason you would want to watch the movie for. There are explosions, action, fights and Robert Downey Jr. The port forms the perfect backdrop for the big showdown and got me thinking about how shipping containers have been one of the favored backgrounds for action movies.
